Do Your Research

Research the job market to determine the pay rate, hours, availability, and other common needs. Make sure you look into the credentials that your job will require before crafting a job description.

Be incredibly specific about which qualifications you prefer and what you require. If you lack specificity, you’ll waste countless hours sifting through the applications of those completely unqualified for your position. If your position requires these common certificates, so much the better.

Post Your Listing

Obviously, you won’t attract many candidates if no one knows your position exists. How many and which job boards you post your position to depend on personal preference and industry. However, we recommend casting a net no wider than your hiring manager will have time to comb through.

Casting too wide a net for recruits can lead to an overworked HR team and an underwhelming response.

Recruit, Search, and Interview Candidates

Whether you hire a recruiting service or conduct your own search, the next step should be to find your ideal candidates. Once you’ve found candidates whose credentials and experience line up with what you’re searching for, reach out, and set up an interview with them.

If they perform well with the interview process, fantastic! You can move on to the next step. If not, repeat the recruiting and search processes until you reach an interview candidate who does match your needs.

Hiring and Onboarding

Once you’ve found your match, it’s time to extend an official job offer. Given the current job market, many offers you extend will be accepted, but don’t count on that as a matter of course. If your choice for hire decides to take a pass, go back a step, and resume the search.

If they do decide to accept the offer, then it’s time to begin onboarding. This process involves going over company policies and expectations, job duties, and the like. If you wish, it can also involve welcoming activities and team-building exercises. The sky’s the limit, but typically, the more developed your onboarding, the better your retention rate.
